SSBA Saughton Park Painting days dates April – Dec 2020
The following dates have been BOOKED on Tuesdays for the McHattie Room at Saughton Park, Edinburgh for the remainder of 2020.
There are 18 places available for the 29 weeks that are booked and if you would like to attend please let me know.
The cost remains at £7 a day [from 10am to 3.30pm]. It is possible to book for the whole 29 weeks at a cost of £203
OR you may wish to make two payments as set out below.
Some people may wish to attend every 2nd week or mornings or afternoons only. If it is at all possible these requests will be accommodated.
as not everyone can attend all days.
Please note, these are not ad hoc drop in painting days as there is a limited capacity, meaning you must book in advance

Members Workshop: Victoria Braithwaite – Upcoming painting course in Lanarkshire
For the second year running, member Victoria Braithwaite is providing a five-week course in Castlebank Horticultural Centre Lanark, for the Lanark Community Development Trust. This course is suitable for all levels, and Victoria will gently guide you through creating a painting from start to finish.
Most materials are included, from paper and paint, tea and coffee to plant material from the gardens.

‘Nature’s Designs’, our Fourth Annual Exhibition
The Whitehouse Gallery, Kirkcudbright, is our gracious host for our biggest exhibition to date.

Member Marianne Hazlewood is exhibiting at Pittenweem 2019
This annual 10 day festival has been running since 1982 in this lovely fishing village on the coast of Fife. Exhibitions are held in houses, cottages, galleries and other historic venues, the festival spans 2 weekends (and the weekdays in between) in early August. It attracts well regarded artists from a wide range of visual arts. It’s a great day out!

Members Workshop: Bill Phillips
Foxgloves in Graphite and Watercolour
Sunday 14th July 10 am – 4 pm.. £40*
Find out about these fascinating plants with botanical artist Bill Phillips. Foxgloves are poisonous but featured in folk medicine and were an important source of drugs to treat heart disease. Bill will describe the structure of foxglove flowers and how this relates to bumble bee pollination. Working from real specimens and photographs, you will develop your own composition and explore the graphite and watercolour techniques needed to produce an attractive final painting.

PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP 10th April 2019
Photography Workshop
The Photography Workshop is being held on the 10th April at the Scottish Arts Club, 24 Rutland Square, Edinburgh EH1 2BW.
Alistair Cowan who is a member of the Royal Photographic Society, is leading this workshop, and the programme, specifically designed for Botanical Artists, is set out below. Alistair won the RBGE prize for best Plant Portrait in the 2018 photography competition.

The fee for the workshop, that includes morning coffee and a two course lunch, is £50, with the day starting at 10.30 and finishing at 4.40pm. The SAC has a very good restaurant, offering a varied daily menu including a vegetarian option.
Please bring with you whatever you normally use to photograph your art specimen: e.g. Camera and tripod if you have one, or your iPad, or other tablet, or phone. Also please bring a flower exhibit and vase, if needed, and an example of your completed artwork, or something in progress.

Member Marianne Hazlewood showing at VAS exhibition this winter
Visual Arts Scotland – 2019 Annual Exhibition, ALIGHT
We are delighted to share that Marianne has two pieces in the current Visual Arts Scotland open exhibition ALIGHT 2019 at the Royal Scottish Academy Edinburgh.
The two pieces are new ink Arisaema, continuing her series of ink shoots.
Marianne has been awarded the Open Eye Gallery award, which is a Solo exhibition in their gallery in the future.
The exhibition features a variety of paintings, drawings and print work alongside artists working in wood in association with Craft Scotland and jewellery makers and silversmiths working in innovative, ethical and sustainable practises.
